The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS) is made up of compassionate employees committed to caring for Veterans whose sacrifices know no limit. Wahlen Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and nine community clinics across Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. ### Responsibilities
This position is located at the Pocatello VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Pocatello, Idaho.
The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved with the service. Incumbent is an audiologist program manager (team leader). The audiologist program manager conducts a full range of audiological evaluations to determine the type and degree of hearing loss, determines patients' need for amplification, predicts and measures the effectiveness of amplification, and determines need for and type of rehabilitation and counseling of veterans with hearing loss and their families. In addition, the audiologist program manager ensures that work assignments of the other members of a clinical team are carried out by performing a range of administrative duties within the Pocatello CBOC.

### Qualifications
**Basic Requirements:**
* U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Education. A master's degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university. "Accredited" means a college or university accredited by a regional accreditation organization and an audiology program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
* Licensure (1) Within 2 years of initial appointment under this standard, the incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. An Audiologist who fails to achieve licensure in one area within 2 years of initial appointment under this qualification standard will be restricted to duties in the licensed area. (2) The Audiologist must maintain full, current, and unrestricted licensure/registration.
* English language proficiency.
* One (1) year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower GS-11 grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
**Physical Requirements.**
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform portions of the work. However, there is periodic walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as medical records, food trays, instructional material, books and manuals. No special physical requirements are necessary to perform the work. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019
**Grade Determinations:** In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining grades.
**Licensure**. For those grades that require licensure (GS-12 and above), within 2 years of initial appointment
under this standard the incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory,
Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. A staff audiologist who fails to obtain licensure within 2 years of
initial appointment under this standard will be terminated.
**Education and Experience**. Completion of 1 year of professional experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) directly related to the position being filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs identified for the assignment demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs. **Assignments.** Audiologists at this grade level are independent licensed practitioners and are considered to be at the full performance level. Employees may be appointed to one of the following assignments:
**Staff Audiologist**. Staff audiologists at this grade level must demonstrate professional knowledge of, and skill
in applying, a wide range of theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of audiology to a wide range
of populations. Individuals may perform ancillary assignments, including program management duties on an
occasional basis, where the complexity and amount of work is not substantial.
**Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
**(1)** Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies;
**(2)** Knowledge of clinical services, and the ability to perform them independently;
**(3)** Ability to conduct assessments and provide treatment interventions;
**(4)** Ability to provide consultation to other health care professionals;
**(5)** Knowledge of contemporary audiology practice; and
**(6)** Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice.
