Laboratory Materials Supervisor
** Department: Biological Sciences**
* Prepares solutions, chemicals, and equipment and procures, stores, and dispenses stockroom materials and equipment for use in biology and research projects.
* Insures solutions are prepared using a list of experiments or directions from faculty.
* Prepares samples and conducts analyses with equipment, chemicals, solutions, and supplies for semester use and for individual classes.
* Insures laboratories and related areas are clean, organized, and safe.
* Performs routine maintenance and repair on scientific equipment and advises on laboratory procedures and equipment operation.
* Oversees operation of biology stockroom.
* Selects, orders, and receives chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
* Maintains inventory records and controls and prepares specifications, requisitions, and purchase orders.
* Insures safe storage of hazardous chemicals and solutions.
* Acts as liaison between faculty members and analytical laboratory regarding purchasing, inventorying, and accounting.
* Plans and schedules use of laboratory facilities, supplies, and equipment and selects, trains, and evaluates assistants.
* Good knowledge of: scientific principles and laboratory practices; first aid procedures for laboratory-related accidents.
* Some knowledge of: supervisory practices.
* Experience: applying purchasing and inventory control procedures and maintaining laboratory inventory including the preparation of related reports and records; operating, maintaining, and repairing biology laboratory equipment; preparing chemical reagents and media; safely handling and storing flammable, toxic, radioactive, and explosive chemicals; using word-processing and spreadsheet software.
