Job Description:**

Responsible for field collections on overdue accounts. Respond to planned and unplanned maintenance items including AMI non-communicating meters. Connect and disconnect single-phase meters. Interacts with customers, company employees, and authorities to resolve issues, taking into account the needs of the company and customers in alignment with Idaho Power and PUC rules and regulations.

With minimum supervision, reads and records energy usage and demand into a handheld device.

Live or relocate to/within established boundaries of assigned work location


**Knowledge of:**

+ Basic math and business concepts. Basic computer knowledge.

**Skills in:**

+ Ability to communicate effectively with customers both orally and in writing.

**Ability to:**

+ Use Mobile Workforce applications, remove and install self-contained meters, use safety and personal protective equipment properly, apply credit and collection policies, deal effectively with customers in emotionally charged situations, discuss power usage with residential customers, operate company radio, solve basic mathematics problems, use common hand tools, work independently and as part of a team, maintain and operate a company vehicle in accordance with company policy, and stand call.



+ High school diploma or GED.


+ Two years work experience which includes physical labor and interaction in a team or customer service oriented environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently outdoors in all conditions.


+ Utility experience collecting on delinquent accounts and reading meters, or experience and/or education related to basic electricity, or experience interacting with a diverse customer base.

**Licenses & Certifications:**

+ Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position.

+ Valid first aid/CPR card or ability to obtain one within 90 days.


The Meter Specialist I position consists of the removal and installation of meters. This requires lifting and carrying a step ladder (20 lbs.) and other necessary tools to work site at distances up to 1/2 mile. A G5 handheld computer (5 lbs.) is carried up to 15 miles and up to 35 stops per day. Unloading the truck may involve lifting the tailgate, reaching into the bed and pulling equipment out, and moving cones. Installation requires push/pull force of up to 25-30 lbs. to seat the meter base. Heavy objects may occasionally need to be moved when blocking access gates. It will be necessary to interact and negotiate with customers to collect past due accounts and obtain access to blocked meters. The above is a summary of the primary essential physical functions of the position. This job may require the performance of additional tasks assigned by company leaders or management. Additional safety related training may be required.

Work on call or overtime when needed, outside of normal working hours.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to live or relocate within the service territory of the Pocatello Operations Center.


Occasional overnight travel is required; successful candidate must wear fire resistant clothing, safety glasses, hard hat, approved safety footwear, and successfully complete an Idaho Power Company motor vehicle driving assessment.

Temporary employees are only eligible to apply for internal job postings if the posting is in their current department. Qualified employees must have been in their current position for at least six months and have supervisory approval to participate in order for their current position to be held for their return.
