**_Primary Purpose_**
Idaho State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science. The appointment will begin in the Fall semester of 2018. The department is looking for a candidate with the ability to contribute broadly to its undergraduate and three graduate programs (MA, MPA, and a doctoral program), but is specifically seeking candidates with expertise in (1) Comparative Politics and (2) an additional expertise in International Relations. Priority will be given to candidates with a comparative area of specialization in Europe, Africa, or the Middle East.
The Department of Political Science has one of the largest graduate programs in the College of Arts & Letters at Idaho State University. Located in Pocatello, Idaho State University has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students. The Pocatello region has numerous outdoor recreational activities and is well known for mountain biking, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, kayaking, and skiing. Located in southeast Idaho, Pocatello is 2.5 hours or less by car to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, Sun Valley, Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole, and Salt Lake City.
**_Key Responsibilities_**
The position carries a 4-4 teaching load of undergraduate and graduate courses. Visiting faculty will also have service and research obligations, which will comprise 20 percent of workload.
Because the candidate is expected to help develop and deliver courses within the graduate programs, the ability to teach general courses in comparative politics and international relations is essential. The ability to teach courses such as introduction to comparative politics, courses in the candidate's area of comparative specialization, national security, and terrorism would be an asset.
**_Minimum Qualifications_**
Doctorate in Political Science (PhD or D.A.) however, ABDs will be considered.
